We are a truly international university. Around one quarter of our students are from outside the UK, helping to make Bristol a diverse community.

During September our Global Lounge runs a welcome programme – a great opportunity to meet other new students and get your questions answered. As well as a place to relax and meet others, the Global Lounge is also host to a vast range of social events and cultural celebrations, running throughout the year, bringing students together from the UK and all over the world, to socialise, celebrate global festivities, and share and learn about others’ cultures and traditions in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Some of these events are held in the Lounge – however we also work with Bristol SU to host some of our larger scale events; such as past events Day of the Dead, Global Carnival, Afrocentrik and many more!

"I chose the University of Bristol as it offers the programme that I wanted to study the most: Cancer Biology and Immunology. It’s also located in one of the safest cities in the UK, so my parents felt comfortable with me living alone. Bristol is an energetic and creative city that never lacks art, street food or parties. I love the view when I look down from the medical library; the lights in the city are like moving stars. I lived in university accommodation for over 5 years, it's one of the most heartwarming places and where I made my first friend at university. The warden and senior residents cared about my wellbeing and supported me through all my hard times. My senior resident and my flatmates helped me transition into university life smoothly. In the first year of my undergraduate course, the school office gave me early access to the handouts so I could be more prepared for the lecture content, and I took lessons in the Centre for Academic Language and Development to overcome my language barrier. I am proud to say I am a Bristol Child and I'll always see Bristol as my second home."

"I chose to study at the University of Bristol because of how my programme was structured and the content that it intended to deliver. I liked how the finance aspect of my course was well integrated with Economics, especially with the extra freedom of modules I had during years 2 and 3, which equipped me with the knowledge needed for my future career and helped me to gain an edge over other prospective applicants. I have enjoyed many things during my course, such as the incredibly intellectual and friendly teaching staff, who have helped me significantly with my academic development. The University also helped me in terms of residential support, providing advice and information for navigating the city. The presence of our personal tutors was also essential as they really put in the effort to help us with our matters and to give us valuable advice, as well as celebrate our achievements. Bristol's diverse and multicultural environment helps you to meet people from different backgrounds. The landscape, greenery and nature is very attractive and helps you with organizing any mini trips during the weekends. The friendliness of Bristolians is also fantastic, and I have developed relationships with many people in Bristol."
