Contract Type: Casual / Self-employed

Working Hours: Up to 20 hours per week

Location: Remote

Salary: £40 - £80 per piece dependent upon assignment

Job Overview

Overall Purpose of the Job:

Provide one-to-one research proposal and academic content tutorial, guiding students to complete their research proposals/essays at PhD level

 

The key tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Assist students in identifying their research direction and topic – This involves aligning with the student’s interests and hobbies, as well as considering the current state of the research field, to ensure the feasibility and relevance of the topic (avoiding overly niche directions).
  • Guide students in structuring and developing the content of the Research Proposal (RP).
  • Recommend relevant literature for reading and reference.
  • Provide feedback and revisions on the RP – including editing the first draft and offering further assistance with revisions after communicating with professors (based on the feedback received).
  • Identify and shortlist 10 potential supervisors and corresponding universities/programs, including their homepage links, research interests, and representative publications.
  • Provide suggestions and edits for emails contacting potential advisors (i.e., academic inquiry or “cold emails”).
  • Offer post-class support, including answering follow-up questions and clarifying course materials.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experiences:

  • You must be studying towards a PhD degree as a Year 2 student or above; or be a subject related lecturer (Preferably in Sports Rehabilitation, Public Policy, Film, Arts and Music).
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Sufficient knowledge of the discipline/topics under discussion.
  • Understanding of the basic principles of teaching.
  • Mandarin Chinese is required for this role.
